This case presents risk management issues surrounding port security. Seaport security provides an excellent example of uncertain risk, as it is difficult to objectively estimate risks with confidence. This case was developed for a workshop prepared for the Nova Scotia Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism.

It promises to provide abundant access to energy for the next century, yet many fear the impact the fracking process has on the environment. This case study is intended for a wide audience and is designed to stimulate thought and discussion on public engagement when science is inconclusive and the well-being of future generations is weighed against present need.
